Artist, James Welch's, definitive style oil paintings are influenced by Van Gogh, Maui living and most profoundly by his greatest influence, fellow painter and father, James Welch Sr. , Who proudly served his country as a three-time tour Vietnam veteran. Growing up in the surf and sand of Santa Cruz, CA, inspired Jim's love of beach life and all it has to offer. Since Jim's move to Maui in 1993, his one-of-a-kind original paintings have been displayed throughout Maui in local galleries, art shows, craft fairs, coffee houses and more. He was sponsored by AT&T to do commissioned mural with 65 underprivileged children at Camp Keanae As a member of the Lahaina Art Society, Jim's work has hung in the historic building adjacent to the Banyan Tree Park, where local artists display their finest relics, paintings, sculptures and other fine works of art. Reflections of Jim's childhood and life experiences illuminate the themes Jim paints with luminescent city-states, dreamy iridescent palm tree beach scenes, serene water lily images, Rock & Roll legends and local Maui nostalgic illustrations, which are framed in historic Maui barn wood. Jim uses his free time to recharge by surfing, playing music, restoring his Italian car collection, working on his youtube channel and spending time with family and friends.
